A few days ago, the school opened the Honours Night nominations to the school.
Whereby you submit, er, your own name for nomination.
The logic is a bit weird, and all you need to do is to fill in your name, class, CCA and some other details. Attach a photo of yourself and submit to your form teacher.
It was as simple as it could get, so basically everyone just nominated themselves.
Four catagories of awards: Outstanding Service Award, Service Award, Colours Award and Merit Award.
The Colours and Merit Awards are for the sports people. Win something at the national level and there, you qualify. They’re both about the same, just that Colours is much more prestigious.
The Service Awards are basically for clubs and societies and whatever other activities that do not happen to be a sport. Pretty much the same logic, with Outstanding Service being more outstanding than Service, duh.
So with my credentials, Outstanding Service shouldn’t be that hard. But then again the school recognises the Astronomy Society like how we’d recognise Hitler if we were to piece back every single dust and particle of his ashes.
Well, we’ll see.
And then I didn’t really bother about the Colours and Merit Awards because I haven’t won anything substantial at the National Schools competitions. Two years in a sport CCA ain’t gonna get me anywhere near the national standards of ‘A’ Division.
Then came along my Bowling teacher IC and captain, who both suggested that being in reserve of a team that clinched the National Championships isn’t too bad at all. Besides, the entire bowling team nominated themselves. Colours Award is too far-fetched, but I may stand a chance for the Merit. So I took out my pen and I’m down for another award.
So if all goes went, I’ll get two awards on Honours Night. But I highly doubt it.
But what I’ve really been trying for, and would really want is a place on the Principal’s Honour Roll.
The Honour Roll goes out to a mere handful of students — really special students. I may have won enough awards to be sick of going up on stage, but at this point in time, I do think that Principal still doesn’t know me. Which also means, she can’t shortlist me.
Darn, I should’ve won something better at IOAA.
