The Best Name Evar…

Let me tell you a story.

Decades ago, before the death of Hitler and birth of George W Bush… my grandparents decided, for some reason I never had the chance to ask them, to do what would be the equivalent of finding a rusted needle in a haystack in the underwater wreckage of Titanic.

Find a better life in Singapore.

Maybe they did, but that hardly matters. What matters is that when they gave birth of my Dad, they went on to register him with the Registry of Births.

I imagined it to be something like this:

Guy at Registry of Births: What surname?

Grandparent: Lau.

Guy: Lau? Uhh… -how to spell-… uhh…. Cow… so changing the ‘c’ to ‘l’… L-ow!

So some silly idiotic moron thought that because Cow and Lau sounds so much alike, Low should be it.

And so here I am, a Low.

I never really liked my surname. It’s so… y’know, low. Be it low class, low IQ, low social status… Low!

But after seeing this, I’ve learned to appreciate my name.

I’m not sure whether this is authentic or not, but it likely is.

The Jawi name there, when pronounced out, is exactly what his English name says. I think.

What happened was probably about the same story as me.

Astro Society Promotional Video

Yet another epic win.

This promotional video came really late because of all the delays that include Fun-O-Rama, Fun-O-Rama and Fun-O-Rama. And fully booked video slots for morning assembly.

Took about a weekend of effort, plus a few nights of editing.

Probably the most well received video I made so far, and I’m tempted to made sequels… if I ever get around to doing another video.

Happy April Fool’s!

It’s April Fool’s Day once again, and we get to see how dry and humourless some people can get.

But I did have my fair share of laughter today.

In school, the Student Council proved that they have far too much free time on their hands.

And they replaced the Principal and Vice-Principals at morning assembly with… plants.

And they counted the number of students entering the school hall early in the morning, and gave out a prize for the 1000th student who arrived. The prize? A box of nothing.

And a seventh addition to the ACS family of schools. Sixth was ACS Jakarta, by the way.

That much was in school.

Back at home, I witnessed the bestest April Fool’s joke by a website. Surpassing all of Google’s combined.

Just today. And only today. While the US is still on the date 1st of April.
