LAB@HOME LATEST COMPLETED PROJECT

Jacob's Ladder - A Jacob’s Ladder is the type of high voltage “climbing arc” display seen in many old (and usually bad) Sci-Fi movies. Jacob’s Ladder come in all shapes, styles, and sizes.

NOTICE

On the 19th of September 2007, HELiXATED.COM was taken offline due to... I should say, disciplinary issues concerning the owner. Almost exactly a month after the incident, I have decided to revive this blog in its all-new glory. Relevant changes had to be made.

An account registration system has been implemented. While public posts will still be made, more private and sensitive issues require an account to view. Registration is simple. Just refer to the... stuffs, on the left. Upon registering, I'll have to approve your account based first. I'll only accept people who I know, friends of people who I know, and friends of friends of people who I know... and that's pretty much everyone. Eh.

Oh and one more thing. This is a disclaimer that everything and anything mentioned on this blog COMPLETELY does not reflect the opinion of the owner. All characters and events described in this blog are fictional. The ideas and characters are the figments of my imagination, and any resemblance to real life people, either living or dead, is purely coincidental. Don't believe in anything.

Unless, of course, I tell you to do so.

Cheers!

R.I.P.

After more than 300 over entries in slightly over a year, this will be the first solemn one ever.

Since the re-opening of school, which the mere thought of that idea sends students into traumas and nervous breakdowns, the students of ACJC might have noticed that the Chinese mixed food and vegetables canteen stall hasn’t been opening. Unlike the noodle stall which closed down quietly a few months ago due to the lack of business, the Taste from the Orient was famous for it’s orientally tasty long queues.

The spectrum of food choices offered by the stall were described to be like a rainbow. No, not the kind of rainbows I have as my desktop background.

1355760067_5f250617cd_o.jpg

Although those are beautiful, too.

But the choices of food from the stall were definitely broad and assorted.

Today I heard the news that one of the stall owners (there’s 3) felt ill over the holidays.

This morning, he has passed on.

He was just 51.

Okay surely he’s just a canteen stall owner. Surely I don’t know him, his name or even remember how he looks like. And I won’t blog like how the great philosopher Kok did in the past.

What I’m trying to bring across here, is the little credit he should be given as being part of the ACJC family. I always firmly believe anyone who has willingly helped a community with his efforts deserve some sort of recognition for service, no matter how insignificant it is. It’s more the thought and intention that counts.

What I can do here is to simply show some respect:

Rest in Peace.

Weirdest Thing You Will See Today

Yet another Weirdest-Thing-You-Will-See-Today.

I won’t post another near-pornographic disney picture. Don’t worry.

But this is as funny as the disney picture was… disturbing.

Another fine example of everything getting lost in translation.

Just a fair warning… Seriously WTF.

It’s Dutch actually.

Lyrics:

Ik voel me niet op mijn gemak.
Er zit een gat in mijn dak (x3).
Ik voel me niet op mijn gemak.
Het is door dat gat in mijn dak.

Translation:
This morning I woke up real early.
I felt drops on my head.
I looked up and then saw.
What was going on up there.
There was a hole, it was real big.
And through that hole fell a nut.
Then there fell a branch on me.
And also a very big egg.

There is a hole in my roof
I don’t feel at ease
There is a hole in my roof
I don’t feel at ease
It’s because of that hole in my roof.

What does that have to do with Klus? I’ll tell you that.

I then called my friend Klus.
He said that’s really something for me.
He hammered for about ten hours.
And then the hole had disappeared
The Klus screamed : Look I did it again!
He jumped up and down from joy.
All of a sudden I heard some noise and “Bang”
There was a new hole in my roof.

There is a hole in my roof
I don’t feel at ease
There is a hole in my roof
I don’t feel at ease
It’s because of that hole in my roof.

Randomness Helps

Just an attempt at the art of randomness.

I think having a science fair project entitled “Simulating Physics Laws of Collision of Two Balls in Virtual Reality Environment” is the most obscene thing to do when your group consist of 3 boys.

Seriously.

And why do you need virtual reality when you can simulate easily in it real world? It’s utterly convenient.

I can’t mention more.

Silicon Valley giant Google Inc. is teaming with the X Prize Foundation to launch a commercial race to the Moon with $30 million in incentives to collect along the way.

The X Prize Foundation, headquartered in Santa Monica, Calif., spearheaded the $10 million Ansari X Prize, which was created to jumpstart the development of private commercial transportation to suborbital space. That prize was won by Scaled Composites of California, which is now building a commercial version of its winning vehicle for entrepreneur Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic Corp.

The Google Lunar X Prize sets the competition bar much higher than suborbital space.

Just another reason why I love Google.

Okay, after I’m done with my Tesla Coil (which would be wonderfully soon, and not another 5 months more), I’ve decided to try out the high powered laser once again. Yes, 3rd attempt.

I got sick of buying DVD Drives to tear apart just for a tiny diode, so I bought the DVD diodes themselves.

After 3 weeks, I got them in my mail.

And inside the bubble wrapped envelope was the smallest thing you could expect. Just this:

p1110068-500×500.JPG

3 Diodes! One laser for myself, one laser to put under Liquid Nitrogen at NUS, one laser for… hm, someone.

p1110072-500×500.JPG

That’s the little fella.

“Best Blog Awards

Blog of the Day Awards offers the best selection of weblogs and famous blogs on a variety of topics. Selection of Best Blogs of the Day is usually done a few days ahead of time based on nominations up to that point. Criteria include content, quality, creativity, and the personal opinion of the judges. Judges grant up to four awards each day in recognition of outstanding nominees who are recommended by visitors to the site and by a panel of judges who bestow the honor of a Daily Blog Award upon the recipients. Being named a Blog of the Day Awards Winner can be the crowning achievement of a lifetime of work or it can be the beginning of a new chapter in the life of a blogger. Presentation of these awards can bring acclaim and notoriety beyond their wildest imaginings. The accolades and praise heaped upon winners of these prestigious awards can be best described as fabulous and the stuff of legends. We don’t care what blog hosting platform your weblog is hosted on. We want the best blogspot blogs, the best wordpress blogs, the best typepad blogs and so forth. If you know a weblog that should be nominated for these Daily Weblog Awards or if your own blog seems to be a likely candidate for the prize, nominate it by submitting a comment to the most recent award post.”

Or at least that’s what they say on their site.

“Blog of the Day Awards for Wednesday September 12, 2007.

A Blog of the Day Award goes to http://www.helixated.com/

This comes timely enough to get good publicity for myself and Eng Yian. Or at least I was told that’s why the U.S. goes to wars.
